Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to another school year! We are so thrilled for the 2022-2023 school year. It was so wonderful seeing all the smiling faces at Meet the Teacher, and we are ready to have a very successful year!
First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Lauren Busse, and I am the Meyer principal. Last year was my first year as Principal, and I look forward to leading Meyer again this year. I was born and raised in Hondo, and I am so proud to serve the students and families in my community.
Joining our Meyer family this year is our new Assistant Principal, Dustin Baumann. He comes to us from Hondo High School, but he has been an elementary assistant principal in Bandera ISD. Heather Gonzales is our new Counselor and she comes to us from Devine ISD with experience as an elementary special education teacher. New faces on campus include: Paige Soza-Curriculum Coordinator, Alyssa Byrd-Nurse, Sarah Barnet-Kinder teacher, Kolbi Fowlkes-Turner and Emily Oliver-1st grade teachers, Alyzabeth Grissom-2nd grade teacher, and Elisa Nugent, Rebecca Sanchez-Soliz, Esperanza Elizondo, and Annie Guajardo-Instructional Assistants. We are so blessed to have these wonderful educators join the Meyer family.
I’m excited about our returning PTO officers and their dedication to our staff and students. Our first PTO meeting will be on September 20th at 6:00 pm at the Meyer Library.
We have been working diligently to ensure that this is the best school year ever. We are looking forward to the great opportunities that this year will bring. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or my staff if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent and Family Engagement Policy
Hondo ISD recognizes parents as partners in providing all children with a quality education. We respect the unique knowledge and experience of parents knowing that they are the first and most important teachers in their children’s lives.
To ensure that parents are actively involved in their children’s education, it is the policy of Meyer Elementary School:
To create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for parents.
To convene an annual meeting to acquaint parents with the campus, their children’s teachers, instruction and programs including, but not limited to, TEKS Resource System (TCMPC), Fundations, IStation, Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA) and OLSAT assessments.
To serve as a partner with parents and families to improve student attendance.
To provide multiple methods to communicate important information to parents keeping them informed of programs, curriculum, and academic assessments used to measure student progress and the state’s academic content and achievement standards. All information oral or written related to school parent programs will be provided in a format and language that the parents can understand.
To provide parents with opportunities to volunteer at their child’s campus following the volunteer guidelines which include a criminal history check for all volunteers.
To provide ongoing opportunities for parents to be involved at various levels in planning and decision making and also provide timely repeated opportunities for parents to provide feedback to the school.
To serve as a referral resource for parents to enable them to locate the services they need for a safe and healthy family.
